Pregnancy health questions answered

Wed.18.Apr.2012 - 13:30 BST

We all want our children to have the best start in life, and that starts not just from when they are born but from when we first start planning for a baby.

One of the biggest concerns for mums-to-be is our health during pregnancy and how it affects our unborn child.  We go to great lengths to keep ourselves healthy during that nine months and it’s often difficult to know what medications and treatments we can take without harming our baby.

Unfortunately, pregnancy can throw up a lot of health issues for many women - from morning sickness to high blood pressure, there can be difficulties to overcome on the journey to motherhood.

One very common health issue for women of childbearing age is Bacterial Vaginosis (BV).  It is the most common vaginal infection however, 2 out of 3 women are misdiagnosing BV as thrush due to lack of awareness and misunderstanding around the symptoms. If left untreated BV can have some serious health implications including increasing the risk of early labour and premature birth and infertility.

So are you concerned about your health during conception or pregnancy? Are you confused as to what medications and treatments are suitable for you?
